Schmidt Moisture Separator Tank

Schmidt Moisture Separator Tank

SKU: AFMSH1600P

The Schmidt Moisture Separator Tank is engineered to remove moisture from compressed air systems, improving performance in abrasive blasting operations. Utilizing expansion-based separation, this unit is ideal for environments where moderate moisture control is sufficient, offering a cost-effective solution without the need for more complex drying systems.

  • Efficient moisture removal through expansion-based separation
  • Enhances abrasive flow and reduces contamination of controls
  • Suitable for less humid environments, or alternatively, as a final moisture trap inline with the blast pot, when the air dryer is a long distance from the pot.
  • Available in 800 or 1600 CFM capacities
  • Can be configured as stationary (stand mounted), or as portable with handle, axle, and wheels
  • SKU’s are as follows:
    • 800 CFM, Stand mount:  AFMSH800
    • 800 CFM, Portable: AFMSH800P
    • 1600 CFM, Stand mount: AFMSH1600
    • 1600 CFM, Portable: AFMSH1600P

Schmidt Moisture Separator Tank

Sku: P-AFMSH

The Schmidt Moisture Separator Tank is a valuable option used to maintain efficiency in certain abrasive blasting applications. By removing moisture from compressed air through an expansion-based method, it helps prevent issues such as flash rusting, abrasive clumping, and control valve contamination. This ensures a smoother flow of abrasives and consistent blasting performance.

Designed for use in drier, arid environments, this moisture separator offers a practical solution for operations that do not require the advanced moisture removal capabilities of aftercoolers or air dryers.

Key Features:

  • Removes moisture through expansion-based separation
  • Prevents flash rusting and abrasive clumping
  • Reduces contamination of control valves
  • Ideal for environments with moderate moisture levels
  • Compact and portable for easy system integration
  • ASME code-stamped for safety compliance
  • Built with 2" NPT ports on both Inlet and Outlet, these can be equipped with your choice of Spud or 4-claw fittings, ball valves, splitters, etc.  Note:  Fittings are optional and must be ordered separately.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Q: How does the Schmidt Moisture Separator Tank remove moisture from compressed air?
A: It utilizes expansion-based separation, allowing compressed air to expand within the tank, causing moisture to condense and separate from the air stream.

Q: What are the common methods for removing moisture from compressed air?
A: Four common methods are:

  1. Expansion in a tank: Allows air to expand, causing moisture to condense.  (This is why compressed air that is NOT treated condenses moisture in a blast pot, because the pot then becomes the expansion tank.)
  2. Spinning it: When the inlet is offset on the tank, compressed air enters tangentially, creating a spinning motion that separates moisture.
  3. Cooling it: Using aftercoolers or radiators to cool air, condensing moisture.
  4. Use of a deliquescent tablet system: Dryers like the Schmidt ADS combine the above 3 methods with a deliquescent tablet system for maximum moisture removal in critical or very humid applications.

Q: Is the Schmidt Moisture Separator Tank suitable for all environments?
A: It is best suited for drier, arid environments where moderate moisture control is sufficient. For higher moisture levels, additional systems like aftercoolers or air dryers are recommended.
