Steel Abrasives

Cast Steel Shot and Grit for Shot Blasting & Peening
A Steel Shot To Suit Every Application

Steel shot blasting abrasive media, is available in a range of different hardness grades, from S70 to S780. Unlike steel grit, steel shot sizing convention is the larger the number, the larger the particle size, the smaller the number, the smaller the particle size. Steel shot is only available in a single hardness grade.

The largest consumption of steel shot is for use in automatic wheel blasting machines. These use a stream of abrasive falling on a rapidly spinning wheel with paddles (similar to a water wheel) to energize the shot and impel it onto the work surface. Wheel blast machines use steel shot predominately because of it being less aggressive on machinery. Wear in wheel blast machines when using steel grit is uneconomically high. If using steel grit is unavoidable, use the softest grade available – GP.
