Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is the temperature range on the Logger Only?

The PosiTest OTL without holder or barrier box can withstand a temperature range of 0 to 70° C (32 to 158° F).
  • What temperature probes are available?

Wide variety of surface and air temperature probes available with 1.8, 3.6, or 6 m (6′, 12′, or 20′) stainless steel braided cable (not included). Visit the product detail page to learn more.
  • Is the PosiTest OTL calibrated at the factory?

The PosiTest OTL arrives fully calibrated and ready to measure. A Long-Form Certificate of Calibration traceable to NIST is included, which documents actual readings taken by your instrument at our calibration laboratory on standards traceable to a national metrology institute. Beware of ‘Certificates’ or ‘Certificates of Conformance’ offered by competitors. These typically do not include actual instrument readings, and are often insufficient to meet common quality requirements.
  • How often should the PosiTest OTL be recalibrated?

The PosiTest OTL and K-type thermocouple Temperature Probes are calibrated at the factory — with no expiry or end date. They have no shelf life; therefore the length of time in use is not a good indicator for recalibration intervals.

Many organizations with quality programs and recertification programs require annual recalibrations, and this is a good starting point for most users. DeFelsko recommends that customers establish calibration intervals based upon their own experience and work environment. Based on our product knowledge, data, and customer feedback, a one year calibration interval from the date the instrument was placed in service is a good starting point.

  • Can PosiTest OTL temperature probes be re-certified?

No. Due to the lengthy calibration process, it is more economical for the PosiTest OTL temperature probes to be replaced if required.
  • What's the difference between the PosiTest OTL Kit and the PosiTest OTL XT Kit?

The PosiTest OTL is available in two configurations. The PosiTest OTL XT Kit features an enhanced holder with heatsink for greater endurance at high temperatures.
  • What types of temperature probes are available?

A wide variety of spring clamp and magnetic temperature probes are available with either 1.8, 3.6, or 6 m (6’, 12’, or 20′) stainless steel braided cables for testing air or surface temperatures. Each temperature probe includes a Certificate of Calibration traceable to NIST.
