Diesel Dust Collector Guide: Startup, Shutdown & Free Maintenance Checklist

Dust Collector Walkthrough

BlastOne has mobile dust collectors which range from 6k to 40k cfm. These are low maintenance units which are easily transported to the job site and are powered by powerful diesel engines. An optional electric motorized unit can be acquired also. Read more about Dust Collectors here.

Here are the startup and shutdown procedures for the BlastOne 20,000 CFM dust collector, ensuring safe and efficient operation.

Dust Collector Startup and Shutdown Procedures

Pre-Startup Inspection:

  • Always check fluid levels before starting the unit, including hydraulic fluid, fuel, coolant, and engine oil.
  • Ensure the hydraulic fluid level is at least three-quarters full.

Startup Procedure:

  1. Open the Dust Collector Bay Doors: Improve ventilation for proper airflow.
  2. Turn the Key: Wait for all warning lights (amber and red) to disappear before initiating startup.
  3. Engage the Clutch: Ensure engine RPMs reach 1100 before engaging the clutch lever slowly.
  4. Increase RPMs: Once the clutch is engaged, gradually increase engine RPMs for optimal operation.

Shutdown Procedure:

  1. Lower Engine RPMs: Slowly decrease RPMs back to 1100.
  2. Cool Down Engine: Allow the engine to cool down for a few minutes after reaching 1100 RPMs.
  3. Disengage Fan Clutch: Once cool, disengage the clutch on the fan.
  4. Allow Complete Cool Down: Let the entire unit cool down for 2-3 minutes before shutting off.

Post-Shutdown Maintenance:

  1. Filter Cleaning: With the unit off, utilize clean and dry compressed air (between 75-90 psi) to pulse and clean the filters.
  2. Debris Removal:
    • Ensure the butterfly valve is open.
    • Pull the lever to allow hydraulic fluid flow through the motor.
    • Engage the auger to remove debris into a designated container (super sac or similar).
    • If the auger clogs, move it back and forth to dislodge the material.

Additional Tips:

  • Refer to the user manual for specific maintenance instructions and safety protocols.
  • Regularly schedule maintenance checks for optimal dust collector performance.
