Powder coating is a type of coating that is applied as a dry powder to a surface. A powder coating does not require a solvent to keep the binder and filler parts in a liquid state before application. Powered coating our typically applied using an electrostatically method that is then cured under heat to create the coating over the materials surface.
Powder coating tends to create a hard finish that is tougher than conventional paint coatings. Primarily used for the coating of metals such as machinery component parts.
BUILDING YOUR COATING BOOTH
Powder spray painting booths are especially designed to suit the product and application equipment. Manual plants have different parameters for design as opposed to automatic plants. It most important to get the correct air to powder ratio within the prescribed limits to prevent the possibility of explosion. Insurance companies will recognize a properly designed plant.
BlastOne will design a booth which will be specific to your requirements, whether you are spraying to waste or reclaiming over-sprayed powder for reuse. We have many years of experience in engineering powder coating plant for ease of cleaning, quick color changes, reduced energy requirements. Our design for your application will take into consideration the specific brand and type of application equipment you prefer to use.
All of our designs will conform to government and local regulations.
TYPES OF POWDER COATINGS
There are two main categories of powder coating: thermosets and thermoplastics. The thermosetting variety incorporates a cross-linker into the formulation. When the powder is baked, it reacts with other chemical groups in the powder to polymerize, improving the performance properties. The thermoplastic variety does not undergo any additional actions during the baking process, but rather only flows out into the final coating.
Production process:
1. The polymer granules are mixed with hardener, pigments and other powder ingredients in a mixer.
2. The mixture is heated in an extruder.
3. The extruded mixture is rolled flat, cooled and broken into small chips. The chips are milled and sieved to make a fine powder
PASS THROUGH POWDER BOOTH
APPLICATIONS
BlastOne’s Pass Through Powder Booths are designed with a central conveyor providing the ability to powder coat both sides of a product with both automatic or combined manual/automatic coatings. The booth also offers a collector module that rolls out (folds out like a book) for easy color change with additional modules available for multiple color options. Parts/products enter the booth via the conveyor, then pass the coating operator stations to receive the powder coating. The powder overspray is contained within the air stream moving toward the collector module, where the cartridge filters remove the airborn particulate. The air is then drawn through the air handler’s primary filter system before it’s discharged back into the room. Coated parts exit the booth toward the cure oven.
KEY FEATURES
HEAVY DUTY CONSTRUCTION
Panels are constructed from 18-gauge, prime galvanized steel, and are fastened with 5/16-inch bolts and serrated lock nuts.
COLLECTOR MODULE
The collector module draws filtered air into the booth and passes it across the high quality primary filters before recirclating it back into the booth.
INDUSTRY-LEADING LIGHTING
Lighted booths get bright, full booth illumination from four-tube, 48” long, 32-watt, fluorescent light fixtures. BlastOne light fixtures are ETL listed (Class 1 Division 2, Groups A, B, C, D and Class 2 Division 2, Groups F and G).
CONTROL EQUIPMENT
The control equipment includes NEMA 12 Remote Electrical Panel, primary disconnect, automatic purge/pulse control, main air line disconnect, and a magnehelic pressure gauge.
VARIABLE FREQUENCY CONTROLLED FAN (VFD)
Connecting to the motor, this allows the fan to run at multiple speeds to provide optimum airflow within the booth. The VFD can also save on operating costs via the reduced amp load on the fan motor and it’s ability to slowly ramp up motor speed.
PURGE CONTROL
Assures the safe operation of the coatings enclosure by maintaining airflow at design levels.
QUALITY FANS AND MOTORS
Spark-proof construction plug type fan and VFD for variable speeds.
SAFETY EQUIPMENT
(1) Air Interlock Solenoid Valve and filter proving switch is provided.
MEETS QUALITY PERFORMANCE STANDARDS
Spray booths manufactured by BlastOne meet and/or exceed all applicable OSHA and NFPA regulations.
OPTIONS
• LED lighting
• For automatic guns, flame/spark detection can be provided by others (if required)
• Stainless steel option available

Batch Powder Booth
APPLICATIONS
Engineered with an open front, BlastOne’s Batch Powder Booths are perfect for small powder coating applications. This booth makes an efficient and cost-effective use of shop space and can be used for large or small products and parts. With the open front design and a 3-stage filtration system, air is drawn through the spray booth, passes through the working area into the filtered exhaust plenum. The air is filtered in three stages and then discharged back into the room.
KEY FEATURES
HEAVY DUTY CONSTRUCTION
Booths are constructed from 18-gauge, quality galvanized steel with all panels and support members precision punched for easy bolt and nut assembly.
3-STAGE FILTRATION SYSTEM
Three stages make it xtremely effective at catching powder dust.
Stage 1: Blanket style filter, Stage 2: Bag style filter, Stage 3: Hepa type filter.
FINAL FILTER PROVING ASSEMBLY
Interlocks with the air solenoid valve to ensure filters are properly installed and functioning.
INDUSTRY-LEADING LIGHTING
Booths are brightly illuminated from four-tube, 48” long, 32 watt, fluorescent light fixtures. BlastOne light fixtures are ETL listed (Class 1 Division 2, Group A, B, C, D and Class 2 division 2, Group F and G.) and are supplied with a multi-voltage ballast to accept any voltage between 110vac and 277vac. Bulbs are preinstalled at the factory and tested prior to shipment.
AIR SOLENOID VALVE
Interlocked to the exhaust fan and air supply for the spray application equipment.
MEETS QUALITY PERFORMANCE STANDARDS
Spray booths manufactured by BlastOne meet and/or exceed all applicable OSHA and NFPA regulations.
