BLAST POT LIFESPAN

WHAT AFFECTS ABRASIVE CONSUMPTION AND POT BLASTING TIME

BlastOne has been examining thousands of contractors around the world for the last 35 years. One thing that stood out to us is the amount of time that a standard blast pot takes to empty. We have found that these pots can empty between 12 and a half minutes to three and a half hours.

12 minutes compared to over three hours makes a huge difference when you are looking at the profit and cost. As a contractor, It is important to know how much time it takes for your pot to become empty. It is also important to check in midway through the job to make sure you aren’t wasting away money, time or abrasive. To get the best results, having the blaster blast a big tank or structure that he blasts without interruptions.

FACTORS THAT CAN AFFECT POT BLASTING TIME/ABRASIVE CONSUMPTION:

  • Nozzle pressure
  • Abrasive size
  • Abrasive type
  • Metering valve adjustment
  • Type of metering valves
  • Size of the blast hose
  • Condition and size of pusherlines
  • Size of nozzles (this increases the velocity of the abrasive)
  • Moisture problems (make sure you are always using the right size AirPrep)

We have compiled a few statistics we’ve gathered from attending over 4,000 job sites over the last 3 years. We compared the abrasive consumption of NewSteel garnet and medium slag in the chart below:

NewSteel Garnet Medium Slag

Worst Best Worst Best
600lb / 6.5 cuft pot 1.5 hrs 3.5 hrs 12.5 mins 50 mins
8t bulk pot with 4 blasters 4 hrs 16 hrs 2.5 hrs 5 hrs
