Abrasive blasting is not only aggressive on the material that it is removing, but also on everything that else it comes in contact with as well – including the blaster. That is why BlastOne has a full range of industry specific PPE. BlastOne provides complete protection from head to toe for the abrasive blaster. In addition to protection from impact, the BlastOne PPE range protects the operator from the dusty nature of a blasting site or blastroom. These dusts may be more than just irritants, they may be hazardous, for example lead based coatings and asbestos, operators need the high level of protection that industry specific PPE provides.
Hazardous airborne substances are an ever-present threat in the Abrasive Blasting Industry. Abrasive Blasting and associated task require protection from dusts (sometimes toxic) and abrasive rebound. BlastOne supplied air hoods protect the wearer from particulate matter such as dusts and impact from abrasive rebound. There are two main categories: the blast helmet, which is specifically designed for abrasive blasting use and the air-purifying respirator, in which respirable air is obtained by filtering a contaminated atmosphere. The air-purifying respirator is used on abrasive blasting jobs for prep work such as grinding.
Mostly, Abrasive Blasting Safety Apparel has been developed because, standard safety apparel has a very short life when used in the abrasive blasting industry. For example, a pair of cotton overalls will only last a single shift when being used with steel grit in a blast room. Consequently, using standard PPE in the abrasive blasting industry is not a good idea. While it may be cheaper, it wears out quicker than the savings justify. There is also the question as to whether it will give the protection that is requires. Standard PPE may have all the necessary compliance approvals in a general sense but that does not mean that it will withstand the rigors of abrasive blasting.
Multiple issues can arise with poor quality supplied air hoods.
An important factor selecting the right blasting suit is fit. A poorly fitting blast suit is not only extremely uncomfortable but may be dangerous. BlastOne blast suits come in a range of sizes – up to six different sizes in particular types of blast suit. Refer to page three of the data sheet for blast suits under the “Documents” tab at https://www.blastone.com/product/rpb-nylon-fronted-blast-suit-coveralls/ to check your size
In selecting gloves for blasting, do not choose welding gloves over blasting gloves. Blasting gloves are longer and sewn together with tougher threads to stand up to the rigors of abrasive blasting.
To choose a blast helmet that increases productivity, reduces strain, and protects the blaster effectively, make sure that it does not…
