Why use moisture separator spare parts?

Abrasive blasting equipment is subject to very harsh treatment – attack by abrasive materials under pressure, an unforgiving environment, rough handling, amongst other things. Consequently, the replacement of spare parts is constant. Added to this is the remote location of many blasting sites, making quick access to distributors and repair workshops impossible. As a result, a constantly replenished stock of replacement parts in the field is essential.

Common issues with moisture separator replacement parts

The biggest issues with moisture separator components are not so much what happens to them, but the effect of their failure on other components in the moisture separation system. For example…

  • A failed regulator could cut airflow to the radiator fan on an AirPrep system, reducing its operating efficiency. This in turn means that moisture gets through to the blast machine.
  • A failed lubricator could stop supplying lubrication oil to the radiator fan motor could cause it to seize.

Consumable items also need to be watched for depletion (e.g., deliquescent tablets and lubrication oil). Unnoticed depletion of these consumables can result in reduced operating efficiency and/or component failure.

Important considerations when choosing the right moisture separator parts

One of the most important considerations when selecting moisture separator spare parts is whether they are genuine OEM parts. Due to the volume of replacement parts consumed by the Abrasive Blasting Industry a large “knock-off” parts industry has sprung up. In the main these “knock-off” are noticeably inferior. Problems caused by these parts include short life, compromised results quality, engineering standards failure, increased risk of injury, etc. Purchase and use of these of these parts is false economy.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What other spare parts are available for my moisture separator?

    • Filter bowls, knobs and gauges.
    • Radiator air motors, fan blades, and cores
    • Ball valves, hoses, and drains.

  • How long do deliquescent tablets last?

Deliquescent tablets typically absorb 3.5 to 4 times their own weight of water vapor. How long this will take depend on the climatic condition of the environment in which the dryer is operating in and the volume of air that is flowing through them. Daily checks on consumables are advised for optimum operating efficiency.
  • What kind of oil should I put in my lubricator?

Detergent SAE #10 automotive engine oil.
  • The radiator on my AirPrep has been damaged, can I just take it to my local radiator shop and get them to replace it?

No, you cannot. Automotive radiators are designed for cooling water not air. The physics of cooling air to that of cooling water and a different design of radiator is required.
  • Can I add additional outlets the tank of my AirPrep system myself?

Not unless you are a certified welder with pressure vessel qualifications. This is because the tank is a pressure vessel and cannot be indiscriminately modified. In addition, a pressure test will be required after welding or cutting and before being re-commissioned.
